Export any external list of supporters, email subscribers or patrons and make sure your audience are able to access your content on your brand new Ghost site.
When should you import members?
Being able to import any list members to your site in Ghost unlocks many possibilities, for example:
- Email lists — if you already have a list of email subscribers in a tool like Mailchimp or Substack, give them access your members-only content or use Ghost to send your email newsletter.
- Patreon supporters — import existing paid-members from your Patreon account into Ghost and use it as a custom website that only your patrons can access.
- Migrations — bring members of any kind from another membership platform to migrate your publishing business to Ghost.
Importing a CSV
Log into your site's admin and navigate to the members dashboard. Clicking the settings icon at the top will give you the option to import or export members with ease using a CSV file.

Preparing a CSV for Ghost
It's recommended to clean your exported data before importing it into Ghost for the best possible outcome.
Imports should be in a CSV format and support the following fields:
email- email addresses [required]name- full namesnote- member notessubscribed_to_emails- [true/false] identify which members will receive email newslettersstripe_customer_id- unique Stripe customer ID to import existing paid subscriberscomplimentary_plan- [true/false] import members who have a free subscriptionlabels- Labels need to be in quotes and comma separated for multiplecreated_at- Date format ISO 6801:2019-10-30T14:52:08.000Z
The email field is a required field - all other fields are optional.
